UIC unveils data science major
This fall, the computer science department added its second undergraduate major: data science.
Data science is a rapidly growing field that touches all industries, giving students a wide range of choice in how they want to apply their knowledge and skills.
Because data science is an interdisciplinary field, the major was co-designed and is offered collaboratively by the College of Engineering, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the College of Business. Majors take core courses drawn from each of these colleges, gaining a foundation in math, statistics, computer science, communications, ethics, and project management.
Students then add definition to their major by choosing one of nine concentrations, which range from industrial engineering to social technology to urban planning and public affairs.
