A mammoth task

Alumnus William Troy, PhD ‘21, and his colleagues at Colossal Biosciences are on a mission to recreate the woolly mammoth. To do this, they’re using a combination of genome editing, DNA fragments from the extinct animal, and DNA from its relative, the Asian elephant. They hope that by reintroducing the creature to its former habitat in the Arctic tundra, they will advance the field of genetics and help save the planet.
