CME Professor Jane Lin to lead top-tier transportation journal

Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering Professor Jane Lin is taking on the role of co-editor-in-chief of the journal Transportation Research Part D: Transportation and Environment (TR-D) in January 2026.
TR-D is a top-tier transportation journal and a leading publication in sustainability and transport-environment research. It publishes original research on the environmental impacts of transportation, policy responses to those impacts, and their implications for the design, planning, and management of transportation systems. It encompasses a wide range of aspects related to the interaction between transportation and the environment, from the environmental impacts of a local transportation system to the global implications of natural resource depletion and atmospheric pollution.
In this role, Lin will oversee the paper review process with associate editors, ensure paper quality, steer the journal’s direction and growth, and maintain its premier status among the transportation journals.
“Being appointed co-editor-in-chief of a premier transportation journal is a tremendous honor and achievement in my academic career. It attests to my international leadership in the field of sustainable transportation research. It provides me with a great opportunity to nurture and foster sustainable transportation research globally. It is also a wonderful way to give back to the research community that has supported me all along,” said Lin, who has been an associate editor of the journal since 2017.
Lin has extensive experience contributing to research journals. She is an editor of Future Transportation and a former editor of Transport Policy. She also serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Sustainable Transportation, and previously served on the editorial advisory board of Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice.
In addition to editing journals, Lin is the director of the Sustainable Transportation Research Group in the SusTrans Lab at UIC.
