Spring ’15 Commencement
UIC’s College of Engineering is proud to welcome the class of 2015 to the ranks of our more than 23,000 alumni. The College held its 48th annual commencement ceremony on May 9, 2015 in the UIC Pavilion, awarding 400 baccalaureate, 255 master’s and 45 doctoral graduates in six departments. Peter Nelson, dean of the College, presided over the ceremony with an award presentation to faculty members Joseph Hummel and Belinda Akpa for their excellence in teaching. Dr. Hummel was awarded a Silver Circle Award and Dr. Akpa was awarded the Harold A. Simon Award. Along with Dr. Nelson, Associate Dean of the Graduate College Jonathan Art presented the degrees, and Jenny Zhao, director of engineering at Google, gave the commencement address.

In his keynote address to undergraduates, Kevin Lynch, UIC attendee and the man who led the Apple Watch software development team, encouraged the midyear graduating class to be brave, imaginative, and kind throughout the course of their careers.
